ADHD & Entrepreneurship

Discovering and pursuing a fulfilling life — now wouldn’t that be lovely?

There will hopefully be something therapeutic about writing a personal blog. Of course, I hope I can help and inspire others along the way, but a ‘brain dump’ will suffice for now.

So, what am I going to blog about? (The only person guaranteed to read this is my mum, but here goes anyway)….

- ADHD, ANXIETY and the tools we can use to turn them into an ADVANTAGE

- Sharing my journey transitioning from employment to self-employment (with the aim of pursuing a more fulfilling and abundant life)

- How ambitious people with ADHD can find more fulfilment by creating their own path

- Personal development and making huge profits by exploiting your strengths & passions

- How we can find more clarity and get the right tools to pursue a fulfilling life in an age with an increasing amount of noise

Do I hope this blog will turn into something? Of course! Do I think it will? To be honest I’m not sure… But I do hope my story and my direction can resonate with some people. I hope it reaches people who were in a similar position to me. I feel very passionate about helping other people who were in my situation.

So, what was my situation? Well, I have been dis-content in virtually every job I have ever had. In hindsight the underlying reasons were things such as not having enough of an impact and not believing in the mission of the company. (Even if it was a good one I always felt like I wanted to create my own thing). This discontentment manifested itself in many ways;

- Chronic headaches

- Anxiety

- Drug abuse

The above probably sounds extreme but my theory is that people with ADHD and highly entrepreneurial people feel significantly more discontentment than the ‘normal person’ when not living up to their potential and being creative. They are desperate to break away from the 9–5 and create their own destiny. All of the counselling, CBT and meditation could not keep me happy in work as it is my purpose to create my own destiny. I recently heard Seth Godin say on a podcast that he realised from a young age that he just had to “find a way to create his own outcomes”. He knew that employment did not work for him. These are the people I am looking to help and inspire. The restless and talented people who don’t know where to start but would ultimately make brilliant, creative entrepreneurs.

Leaving my job and transitioning into a life of helping others and pursuing my business ventures full-time has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life. I aim to help others achieve the same thing by sharing my journey and to create an online resource people can use to remove the overwhelming feeling of going solo.

I mean, surely there must be thousands of other people who are discontent with their job and transitioning into entrepreneurship? Surely their must be thousands of people who are obsessed with making a big impact on this world? I am therefore calling all of the E’s and the N’s in the Myers Briggs aptitude assessment to read up, contribute, follow my journey and hopefully learn from my (inevitably plentiful) mistakes. More to follow about aptitude assessments later….

Making a transition employment to entrepreneurial life is not an easy one. It is difficult to know where to start these days with so many options and so many different resources to choose from to help assist the business. What are the processes of starting a business? How do I conduct market research? What type of business canvas should I use? Where do I find Co-founders? Etc… These questions have existed for a long time, but the market place is now saturated. This wide array of considerations is a primary reason for people feeling overwhelmed when undertaking a business venture. This is particularly true if they are balancing it with a full-time job. It is enough for people to turn their tail and run. Or, in the modern-day equivalent — remain at their desk and figuratively pull their hair out in an unfulfilling job.

From my experience, the main obstacles can be broken down into two categories; Clarity and Tools. Without both the prospect can seem insurmountable.

It is these two key elements that I wish to provide people. These are, after all possibly the two biggest gifts a life-coach will help a client to realize within themselves. When you have absolute clarity about what you want to do in life it is amazing how much more settled a person can feel.

This blog will follow my journey as I interview successful people and share their lessons via a podcast and build a digital platform to provide people with much-needed resources to aid people in this transitionary period.

As I have declared my intentions it seems like a good time to round up the first post. Hopefully, there have been a few people out there who can resonate with the story and desire to learn more. Stay tuned amigos.
